How do you choose the right size?

On a typical terrace by a family house the most common installs are pergolas from 3 × 3 m to 4 × 3 m. Larger terraces or atypical shapes we handle with made-to-measure production.

The basic rule: the depth of the pergola should be at least 2.5 metres, so that seating for 4 to 6 people fits comfortably, including room to move around the table. With a shorter depth the chair ends up against the facade and the space loses its point. Do you need a building permit for a pergola?

In Slovakia, from 1 April 2025 a ground-level building up to 50 m² and 5 m high is a minor structure under Act 25/2025 Coll.. A pergola anchored to the house in typical sizes is usually handled by notification, not a full permit. The municipality, the connection to the house and a heritage area can tighten the regime. Check that at the local office.
